About Us

UGCS (University of Glamorgan Commercial Services) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Glamorgan. It was formed in 1992 to ensure the resources and the expertise of the University is made available to private, public and voluntary sector organisations on a local, national and international basis.

UGCS Ltd has approximately 400 University and external consultants registered with the company for their particular areas of expertise. The key services offered by UGCS are in the areas of training, consultancy, project management and innovation services.

Training is provided in specialised areas such as Project Management, Procurement, Management Development, Quality Management and Credit Management. The majority of the training carried out through UGCS Ltd is accredited and widely recognised throughout the UK’s public and private sectors. A selection of non-accredited short courses are also offered.

Geographically we routinely deliver training both locally and globally (e.g. in Bahrain, Hong Kong and Singapore).

Supported by the broad project management experience of UGCS Ltd, consultancy contracts are being undertaken in the general areas of Construction, Product Engineering, Mechanical Design/Testing, Education Management, Small Business Support, Equality, Community Regeneration and Health Care.

Knowledge Transfer contracts are held by UGCS Ltd on behalf of government agencies and government departments (UK and European). These contracts result in UGCS managing funds ranging from £0.1m to £4.0m in value. We have built up particular expertise in knowledge transfer which focuses on intellectual property e.g. patents, trademarks, copyrighted software and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP).

The main vehicles for commercialisation are the creation of spinout companies or licensing technologies to third parties.
