Ensure that training undertaken is worthwhile
An interesting article on Managementtoday.com asserts that UK firms waste about £10bn a year on training that doesn't improve performance and is thus 'pointless learning'. The main thrust of the article is that line managers MUST work with their staff to ensure that the attend appropriate courses, relative to their needs and to needs of the workplace. And that the anticipated impact of the course is achieved by the course outcomes being analysed, implemented and followed up on by the line manager to ensure the benefits are realised. This is the approach that the team at UGCS advocates. It is on this basis that the already stretched budgets of many of our clients can be maximised - otherwise the investment is wasted, or certainly not realised to its full potential.
