The University of Glamorgan, sponsor of the IoD Young Director's Forum events programme in Wales, presented awards during an engaging IoD working lunch at the St David's Hotel on May 22nd 2008 to their first cohort of IoD members who have successfully completed the Certificate or Diploma in Company Direction.
Alun Hughes, Director of the University's Commercial Services said that 'to celebrate their achievements and hard work, the University was keen to present the successful recipients of the IoD Company Direction programme with a memento specifically from the University of Glamorgan. The IoD programme is a unique qualification which provides directors and aspiring directors with the opportunity to benchmark their skills whilst also serving to address skills gaps. The University is proud to be working so closely with IoD to ensure that the higher level skills agenda is being addressed'.
Presented by Prof Brian Hobbs, the Pro Vice Chancellor at Glamorgan was delighted to meet the programme’s delegates to congratulate them on their success on behalf of the University. Pictured below Steve Edgell, Jean Church, Robert Campbell, Lisa Morgan, Shaun Gwilliam and Stuart Lancaster received their awards at the lunch (absent on the day were our other graduates Nigel James, Steve Dalton, Richard Packman and Karl Gibson). All are successful business leaders who felt that the additional knowledge they gained from attending the programme was key to their decision to both set up their own business.
Formally employed by Countrywide Property Lawyers, Jean Church is now working on a new business start-up. She commented, 'I chose the Diploma in Company Direction because I wanted to attain a recognised qualification that provided both a benchmark and a level of professional expertise. I found the on-line examination study tools very useful. I would describe the time spent with my cohort as invaluable, there was so much added value gained from the study days'.
